It might sound absurd, but planning a family vacation doesn’t need to be a stressful experience, especially if you pick a destination you’ve always wanted to visit but never had the chance. Prince Edward County offers plenty for families of all shapes and sizes, and it’s a great way to see more of Canada compared to the hustle and bustle of the bigger cities. Before you go, though, here are some key things you need to know.

How to Get There

Prince Edward County is relatively easy to access, depending on where you’re coming from. The best way to look at it is to remember it is just over two hours from Toronto, so unless you’re closer than that, it may be worth going towards the city beforehand. Many people fly into Toronto’s Pearson Airport (YYZ) and rent a car. What’s more, the countryside views on the way to PEC are some of the most beautiful and quaintest you will see, which takes some of the sting out of a two-hour drive.

Every Season Offers Something Unique

Although many people know Canada is famous for its scorching summers and wonderful snowy winters, this doesn't mean you need to pick the perfect time to visit Prince Edward County. Instead, every season offers something unique, so it doesn’t matter when you visit. Booking a Prince Edward County cottage rental is perfect for lounging on the deck during the spring and summer, while the winter atmosphere is great for huddling around the campfire. In between, the fall season is great for anyone who wants (or needs) a slower but still fulfilling experience.

Don’t Ignore the Wineries

Prince Edward County is full of things to do, and for the adults, there is not much better than sampling the many wineries. If these, Grange Winery is arguably the most famous and popular, but there are plenty of others for you to sample if you’re staying for a while. Combine these with visiting the Bloomfield Public House Market to line your stomach, and you’ll have the best time.

Check Out the Beaches

Another place you must check out is the beaches. Since Prine Edward Country is more of a peninsula, you have an entire county’s worth of coastline to enjoy, which is fantastic if you want to get out on a boat or spend a day at the beach. The Sandbanks is undoubtedly the place to go and you will be able to enjoy the world’s most impressive dunes as well as waters that will make you feel you’re far closer to the equator than you are. Families can also camp in the provincial park if they want to feel at one with nature and there are many trails for you to explore.

Whether you’re staying for a weekend or prefer a longer trip away, there is plenty to get excited about, and you may have just found your new favorite vacation destination.
