St. Patrick’s Day might be known for pub crawls and green beer, but in our family, it’s always been about celebrating together by the water. And over the years, one place has become our favorite spot for the occasion, Newport Dunes Resort in beautiful Newport Beach.

What started as a fun idea turned into a family tradition. Not only were we celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, but we also had two March birthdays in the family, which meant double the reason to gather, eat, laugh, and enjoy a beach weekend together. Before we knew it, celebrating St. Patrick’s Day at Newport Dunes became something we looked forward to every year.

A Festive but Family-Friendly Atmosphere

One of the things we love most about Newport Dunes is that it captures the fun spirit of the holiday without the chaos. Instead of crowded bars and loud nightlife, you get a relaxed waterfront setting where families can celebrate together.

Kids can run around on the sand, ride bikes along the bay, and play on the playground while the adults relax nearby. Everyone gets to wear their green, enjoy the sunshine, and soak up the festive vibe without feeling like they wandered into an adults-only party.

Safe Beach Fun for Kids

The calm waters of the Back Bay make Newport Dunes especially perfect for families. Because it’s a protected lagoon, there are no crashing waves, which means little ones can splash and play safely while parents keep an eye on them from the sand.

Our St. Patrick’s Day celebrations usually involve:

  • Beach games
  • Kids playing in the sand
  • Bike rides around the bay
  • Relaxing by the water with family and friends

It’s simple, easy, fun, and the kind that makes you realize you don’t need elaborate plans to make great memories.

Glamping, RVing, or Just a Day by the Bay

Another reason Newport Dunes is such a great St. Patrick’s Day destination is the variety of ways you can enjoy it.

Families can:

  • Glamp in cozy cottages
  • Park an RV right by the beach
  • Spend the day enjoying the public beach and activities

Staying overnight turns the celebration into a full weekend getaway, which is exactly what we love to do when we’re celebrating birthdays along with the holiday.
