Does going to Las Vegas with toddler sound like a nightmare to you? Well, where can you go with a toddler that isn't a nightmare? Just kidding. Just kidding. Traveling mom humor. Honestly though, Las Vegas with a toddler is a great time!

Despite having a dominate reputation as playground for adults, it is a fantastic destination for families. I should know. I have been a kid in Vegas and now I travel to Vegas on the regular with kids. I’ve written comprehensive guides for traveling to Las Vegas with a family, whether you’re pregnant, traveling with babies and young children, or planning a trip with teens to help make things as easy as possible. But, now I am going to share my Vegas travel tips specific to parents of toddlers. So let's dig in.

Tips for Visiting Las Vegas With A Toddler

Find A Family-Friendly Hotel

First things first, you will want to book a family-friendly hotel with a nice pool and easy-to-access attractions. You can't use most hotel pools in Las Vegas unless you are a hotel guest. So if you plan on spending a lot of time poolside with your toddler, you are going to want to make sure that you like the pool before you book your stay.

I will get more into navigating Las Vegas with your toddler later in this article, but the closer you are to the attractions or activities you want to enjoy, the better. For instance, if your hotel has a cool family-friendly arcade, that is a bonus to consider when choosing your hotel. You may not think an arcade is something for a toddler, but mine always have a ton of fun and it doesn't cost as much as it does with the older kids and teens. Toddlers just like running around and pretending to play the games. It is a good way to excite them and burn off some energy before moving on to dinner or other activities.

Bring Toddler Helpers

Travel with family, like grandparents, or family members with older teens that would be willing to help watch your toddler. If having adult time with your significant other gambling or enjoying a 21-and-over bar or show is important to you on a Vegas trip. Some hotels work with babysitting services as well.

Enjoy Animal Encouters

I have never met a toddler who doesn't love a good animal encounter and Vegas has plenty of them. Not just party animals either, real and exotic to mythical and magical. Some of these interactive activities are even free!

Silverton Mermaids

Who doesn't want to see real mermaids? Seriously, that is fun for all ages. I still love watching the mermaids. Well over at Silverton your toddler can watch live mermaids swim daily for free. Yes, this is a free attraction in Las Vegas and it is so fun. The mermaids are super playful and interactive with the kids and it makes for such a memorable experience that your toddler is sure to love.

Check out the Silverton Mermaids in our video:

Shark Reef Aquarium

At Mandalay Bay you can take your toddler to see real sharks at Shark Reef Aquarium along with giant sting rays and thousands other cool sea life. This attraction does cost a fee, but kids under 5 are free! So that means your toddler is free too. There are so packages and add-ons, like sting ray, shark and turtle feeds. You have to be at least 13 for some of those encounters though. If you are a guest of Mandalay Bay you receive a discount on admission. Plus Mandalay has a great pool and great family-friendly entertainment. More reasons to stay at Mandalay.

Flamingo Wildlife Habitat

Amongst the hustle and bustle of the Las Vegas Strip, you and your toddler can explore the serene garden oasis at Flamingo Wildlife Habitat. Located inside the Flamingo Hotel, the Wildlife Habitat is a free attraction that allows your family to seek a peaceful stroll in a tropical setting while viewing flamingos as well as many other exotic birds.

Enjoy Free Entertainment

Vegas may seem like an expensive city ready to take your money at any chance, but there are actually quite a few free activities and attractions that will keep your toddler entertained. Hotels use free attractions to lure people off the strip and into their establishment where they hope you will then spend money. Obviously, this works. However, that doesn't mean you can't take advantage of all this free entertainment.

I've already mentioned a few of our favorites above, but some great examples include the Bellagio Fountains at Bellagio and the free shows inside the many hotels' shopping areas, like Fall of Atlantis inside Caesar's Palace and Lost City inside Miracle Mile.

Catch A Toddler-Friendly Show

Las Vegas is known for having amazing entertainment and much of it is family-friendly. Yes, there are a ton of family-friendly shows in Las Vegas, which I have made a complete list for you, so go check it out. However, some are better for toddlers than others. We all know that toddlers attention spans are basically nonexistent, so you will want a show that captures and holds their attention the whole time.

Popovich Comedy Pet Theater

This show is a total winner for families with little ones! It’s packed with hilarious comedy, juggling, and an adorable cast of rescue animals, like cats, dogs, birds, and even a mini horse! Your toddler will love seeing these talented animals perform tricks, while the light-hearted humor keeps the grown-ups chuckling too. It’s a fast-paced, family-friendly show that’s just the right length for short attention spans.

Blue Man Group

For sensory-loving toddlers, Blue Man Group at Luxor is a visual feast. With bright colors, rhythmic drumming, and quirky comedy, it’s an experience like no other. While some parts can get loud, the show’s playful energy and interactive elements are pure magic for kids. The performers don’t speak, which makes it easy for toddlers to stay engaged through sight and sound alone. If your little one is sensitive to loud noises or is sensory sensitive, they do offer a sensory-friendly show too. All my kids, from teens to toddlers, had a blast at Blue Man Group.

Check out our video to see what it is like:

Tournament of Kings

If your toddler loves knights, castles, and horses, this dinner show at Excalibur is a must! Tournament of Kings brings medieval times to life with jousting, sword fights, and real horses galloping around the arena. Your family will sit in the "kingdom" section and cheer on your knight while feasting with your hands (yes, no utensils!). Toddlers will be mesmerized by the action, and parents will love the unique experience of stepping into a fairytale-like world.

Eat At A Fun Toddler-Friendly Restaurant

Just like they are known for great entertainment, Las Vegas is also known for having great restaurants. Luckily, in Vegas, it is not hard to find both in one spot. A great way to have fun with your toddler in Vegas is to find a cool place to eat that offers live music, Nine Fine Irishmen, or that has an entertaining atmosphere, like Rainforest Cafe. I go into more depth in my articles about our favorite family restaurants in Las Vegas and best places to listen to live music with your kids, which you should definitely check out.

Plan Your Walk Wisely

When strolling the Strip with a toddler, there are a few things to consider. I go into much more detail in my guide to walking to the Las Vegas Strip, but I'll briefly go over a few points here.

Time Of Day

First, the time of day matters. You don't want to be out super late, but nighttime is a perfectly safe time to stroll the strip with your toddler. It is cooler and all the lights will be exciting for your little one. A lot families feel like day time is safer, but it can really hot or really cold depending on the time of year you visit Vegas. Daytime is fine, but don't be worried about night strolls either.

The Right Side

The side of the Strip matters too, I prefer walking on the Mirage/Caesar's Palace/Bellagio side of the Strip. It tends to be less congested, which is nice when you have a stroller, and in general more family-friendly. The Harrah's side of the Strip can get a little more rowdy, which can be stressful for families with little ones.

Pace Yourself

The Strip is longer than it appears and everything looks closer than it really it really is. These hotels are huge and take up a lot more space than you realize. I wouldn't plan on walking the whole Strip at once. Two to three hotels is plenty, you can see my Vegas hotel map for more information. Plan for breaks and don't overextend your little one's stamina.

It really doesn't take a lot to entertain a toddler with the bright lights and constant excitement that is Vegas. The goal is to keep them happy while you have are having too, and burn them out so they fall asleep in the evening and Las Vegas gives you a plethora of ways to accomplish just that.
