If you're looking to spice up your Las Vegas vacation while escaping the crowds of the Strip, let me introduce you to one of our new favorite family resorts.

We recently spent several days at The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa, and honestly...we were wondering why it took us so long to visit.

Located about 30 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip in Henderson, this Mediterranean-inspired resort feels like you've traveled to an entirely different destination. Palm trees, a private beach, lake activities, multiple pools, and beautiful mountain views make it feel more like an Arizona or California lakeside resort than Las Vegas.

Even better? It's packed with activities for families.

For our stay, we checked into the incredible Three-Bedroom Casbah Villa, making it one of the most spacious accommodations we've ever experienced in Southern Nevada.

Why Families Will Love The Westin Lake Las Vegas

Before diving into the details, here's why this resort deserves a spot on your family travel bucket list:

  • Resort-style pools with a waterslide!
  • Private sandy beach
  • Lake water activities
  • Huge family villas
  • Kid-friendly restaurants
  • Spa for parents
  • Golf course
  • Walking paths
  • Beautiful sunsets
  • Close enough to visit the Strip—but far enough to actually relax

To compare resorts before booking, check out my guide to the Best Family Hotels in Las Vegas to see how the Westin compares to other family favorites on and off the Strip.

If your Las Vegas vacations usually revolve around casinos and crowded sidewalks, Lake Las Vegas offers an entirely different experience.

Our Stay in the Three-Bedroom Casbah Villa

One word...

WOW.

Our family stayed in the Three-Bedroom Casbah Villa, and it completely exceeded our expectations.

The villa included:

  • Three spacious bedrooms
  • Four full bathrooms
  • Large kitchenette
  • Dining area
  • Large family room
  • Three private patios
  • Gorgeous views overlooking both the pool and Lake Las Vegas

This isn't just a hotel room.

It feels like renting a luxury vacation home with all the perks of a resort.

Having a full-size fridge was perfect for snacks before heading to the pools, while the multiple bathrooms made getting everyone ready incredibly easy.

The patios quickly became one of our favorite features. Morning coffee overlooking the lake? Yes please.

Resort Pools That Kids Never Want to Leave

The pools are definitely one of the highlights of The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa.

Families can spend an entire day here without getting bored.

Expect:

  • Large lagoon-style pool
  • Waterslide
  • Hot tubs
  • Plenty of lounge chairs
  • Poolside food and drinks
  • Beautiful lake views

The atmosphere is much more relaxed than many Las Vegas Strip pools, making it ideal for families with younger children.

One of our favorite moments was simply floating in the pool while looking out toward the lake and surrounding mountains.

Relax at the Private Beach

One thing that makes this resort unique is its private sandy beach.

Instead of spending your day surrounded by concrete, kids can actually play in the sand while parents relax under umbrellas.

It gives the resort a true vacation vibe that's hard to find in Las Vegas.

Lake Las Vegas Water Activities

One of our favorite things about staying at The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa was how easy it was to get out on the water.

Right from the resort, guests can rent kayaks and paddleboards and explore the calm waters of Lake Las Vegas. It's a peaceful way to experience the lake, take in the beautiful mountain views, and enjoy a little adventure without ever leaving the property.

If you're looking for even more excitement, head just across the lake to Lake Las Vegas Water Sports, where you'll find even more family-friendly adventures, including:

  • Electric boat rentals
  • The Aqua Park inflatable obstacle course
  • Paddleboards
  • Kayaks
  • Pedal boats
  • Seasonal water activities

We loved that you can spend the morning paddling around the lake from the Westin, then head over to Lake Las Vegas Water Sports for an afternoon of bigger adventures. The electric boats are perfect for families because they're easy to drive, don't require a boating license, and let you cruise the lake at your own pace.

If you're visiting with older kids or teens, don't miss the Aqua Park. This giant floating obstacle course features climbing walls, slides, trampolines, and balance challenges that are guaranteed to burn off some energy and create plenty of laughs.

HotMamaTravel Tip: Plan at least one full lake day! Start your morning with kayaking or paddleboarding from the Westin, grab lunch in The Village, then spend the afternoon racing across the Aqua Park or cruising the lake in an electric boat. It's one of the best ways to experience everything Lake Las Vegas has to offer.

Dining at The Westin Lake Las Vegas

One of the things we appreciated most about The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa was the variety of dining options available right on the property. Whether you're looking for a quick breakfast before hitting the pool, a casual lunch, or an upscale dinner, there's something to satisfy every member of the family.

Rick's Café

Rick's Café is the resort's main restaurant, serving American cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's a convenient option for families, with a menu featuring everything from hearty breakfasts to burgers, salads, sandwiches, steaks, and seafood. We especially loved starting our mornings here before heading out for a day of swimming and lake adventures.

Marssa Steak & Sushi

For a special night out, make reservations at Marssa Steak & Sushi, the resort's upscale steakhouse and sushi restaurant. Open Thursday through Sunday for dinner only, Marssa offers beautifully prepared steaks, fresh sushi, and an elegant atmosphere that's perfect for date night or celebrating a special occasion while the grandparents watch the kids.

Marrakesh Express

Need something quick? Marrakesh Express is the perfect stop for coffee, pastries, and grab-and-go breakfast items. We highly recommend trying the croissants, they're buttery, flaky, and the perfect fuel before a busy day exploring Lake Las Vegas.

Arabesque Bar

For a casual lunch, afternoon snack, or evening cocktail, Arabesque Bar offers light bites, shareable plates, and one of the resort's best happy hours. It's a relaxing spot to unwind after a day in the sun while enjoying views of the beautiful resort.

Pool Grille

If you don't want to leave the pool, you don't have to. The Pool Grille serves burgers, sandwiches, salads, refreshing drinks, and kid-friendly favorites, making it easy to grab lunch without interrupting your pool day.

Planning more meals during your vacation? Here are my favorite Family-Friendly Restaurants in Las Vegas, from fun themed restaurants to local hidden gems.

HotMamaTravel Tip: You could easily spend an entire weekend without ever leaving the resort for meals. Between the full-service restaurants, quick breakfast options, poolside dining, and nearby restaurants in The Village, there's no shortage of delicious choices for every appetite.

If your family likes staying active, there's plenty more to do.

You'll also find:

If you're planning to explore beyond the resort, there are plenty of incredible destinations within a short drive. Here are some of my favorite day trips from Las Vegas to add to your itinerary.

HotMamaTravel Tips

Book a villa if you're traveling with grandparents or another family. The extra space is worth every penny.

Bring beach toys for younger kids to enjoy the sandy beach.

The beach is only open on the weekends, so plan accordingly if that’s important to you. However, access to the lake and water activities is just across the lake at Lake Las Vegas Water Sports.

Plan one full resort day. There's so much to do that you won't want to leave.

Arrange for the resort to drive you to The Village in the evening. The waterfront comes alive with restaurants, live music, and a relaxing atmosphere.
